This foundation session is an opportunity to meet with others working across with Health, Social Care and Social work sectors and to learn more about what keeps us well in these challenging roles.

We discuss the things that threaten our wellbeing in our roles and what protects us, and how to stock our Psychological 1st Aid kits. We learn about the impact of trauma and stress so we can recognise when we might need some help and where we can find this help if required.

Values Based Reflective Practice: VBRP® is a group reflection model which has been developed to help us to deliver the care we came into the service to provide.

Facilitated VBRP® provides staff with a framework and space to reflect on the relationship between their own values, motivations and purposes and their day-to-day experience of practice. It can be used by staff groups for ongoing support or on a one-off or short-term basis to respond to issues, or service changes.

It can be used by anyone working in health and social care and is applicable across all disciplines and professional groups. It uses the principles of reflective practice to enable practitioners to understand and recognise their personal and professional value and by doing so supports us in delivering safe, effective, and person-centred care.

In this session, we’ll introduce you to the VBRP® model and how it can support reflective practice in your everyday work. You’ll have the chance to think about what really matters to you—your values, your motivations, and how these shape the way you care for others. We’ll also explore how reflecting can help build emotional awareness and resilience. Most importantly, this session is about reconnecting with the purpose behind your role and how values-based practice helps us deliver care that is compassionate, safe, and truly person-centred.

Before you go...

The theme of National Wellbeing Week this year is ‘Supporting workplace culture’. We have a couple of resources related to this which may be of interest to you.

The first is a set of learning modules on Peer Support. We can all play a role in generating a supportive, inclusive environment in the workplace. Supportive environments where colleagues check in with one another can play a huge role in reducing the impact the stressful experiences have. Our peer support modules will help you understand common warning signs that someone might need support and provide you with the knowledge and skills to provide that support.

Second is our Reflective Practice Toolkit. Reflective Practice can help boost team wellbeing by providing staff with opportunities to come together with colleagues, to share and learn from each others experiences, enhancing wellbeing and strengthening teams. Our toolkit will guide you through the basics of Reflective Practice and provide an overview of what is needed to implement reflective practice groups for your staff.
